e.l.f’s product claims – Prep your eyelid for a smoother, long lasting and crease proof eyeshadow. The ultra sheer nude colour works to increase eye colour longevity. The lightweight liquid formula quickly absorbs into the skin for comfortable wear.
Urban Decay claims – Apply before your eyeshadow for more vibrant crease free colour that lasts for 24+ hours.
The packaging of the e.l.f primer is pretty simple, the writing on the tube has rubbed off and did so fairly quickly, the Urban Decay is funkier with a easier to hold bottle. Not much difference between the brushes, UD is ever so slightly softer but not in anyway a bonus quality.
There is a pretty big difference in the actual product formula. e.l.f is quite a thin almost slippy consistency and UD is thick with a more velvety feel.
So pretty much what I did was apply each primer on either side. Then applied a mid priced eyeshadow which was the Blink+Go palette received in my December Glossy Box. Added the usual eyeliner and mascara and away I went!
|Excuse the one eye mascara – Don’t ask why..|
In the picture above Urban Decay is on the left and e.l.f on the right. There is not much difference in each of the eyelids, looks like e.l.f has made a bit more of a smooth effect but only a touch more than the UD.
I applied around 10am and checked again around mid afternoon for the 1st time. Both sides were still on but e.l.f had faded a small touch. I actually forgot about it and didn’t check again till around 11pm and I was really surprised to see that the Urban Decay side was still pretty much intact, slight fading but not too much. The e.l.f side had faded considerably and had almost disappeared. I have to say I was quite shocked at the difference! In hindsight I should have taken a picture but was tired and wanted bed!
So my conclusion is the Urban Decay primer wins with the formula and the fact it is long wearing. I think e.l.f is a great alternative if you are on a budget as it did last fairly well so would be great for the evening. I highly recommend Urban Decay if you need your eye makeup to last from day to night. I have to say I honestly didn’t think I would see much difference in the products, I may not get rid of my spare Urban Decay primer just yet then..
