The Contouring Crew

favourite contour powders

Since my foray into the world of contouring a few years ago I haven’t strayed from TheBalm’s Bahama Mamma. This last month I have bought three separate products, all or nothing eh? I saw Makeup Geek (my latest makeup obsession) had brought out new contour pans but I dithered too long and most of them sold out. They have 8 shades from very light to dark and in both warm and cool tones. Infidelity is the fair cool tone pan which was the one I wanted but still hadn’t come back into stock however I couldn’t wait any longer and ordered the cool tone shade for porcelain skin (Break Up) with hope it wouldn’t be too light. It’s not. The powder is so incredibly pigmented a light hand really is needed. I love the grey tone to it as it mimics a shadow perfectly. The powder is blendable and you won’t look muddy at all. I’m not in the palest end of the spectrum but this shade is absolutely perfect for me. Makeup Geek just forever wow me.

Space NK had free delivery over the bank holiday so it was the perfect time to use up some points. The Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder has been on my radar for years but I was perfectly happy with TheBalm so I didn’t indulge. Now it was time. It’s just as pigmented as MG and only just a smidge darker, which considering I bought the medium shade just goes to show how dark the MG powders will come up. It is also a little more cool/grey in tone. I’m glad light was sold out as I would have gone with that but the medium is great, So blendable so beautiful. No muddiness and creates the perfect cheekbone for us round faced people.

The swatches of KA & MG sitting next to TheBalm only highlights how more of a brown tone it has rather the grey I once thought it had! One of the reasons I decided to try a few new contour products (number one obviously being addicted to beauty buying) was that it started looking muddy on me. I’m not sure how/why but it was time to try something new.

Now I’m in two minds about the L’Oreal. It definitely takes more work to get right but applied in a certain way it can look good even though it does have quite a red tone to it. I think maybe in summer time when you have a bit of a tan this could look good. The highlight side just makes my foundation look odd, it almost wipes it away. However its great at brightening the areas you want it too but for me, I can’t wear it over foundation. Has anyone else found this?

If you are on a budget then go with Makeup Up Geek as you won’t be disappointed but fancy a splurge? Then I’m all about Kevyn Aucoin…

I hardly ever contour, out of pure idleness to be honest ha ha, I have been interested in the KA contouring products in the past though, they look great, I have heard a lot about MUG too but not bit the bullet and tried anything as yet, maybe it's time I did xx Zoe ♥ MammafulZo
